Unrequited Mating Call

Alone in this cave,
I lay.
The cicadas sing their songs,
Calling their lovers to them.
The jealousy lumps in my throat.
Oh to be a cicada.
Oh to hear my lover's call.
I reach for my Voice.
No New Messages.

The emptiness of the cage,
it's growing.
The frogs bellow their tunes,
Singing lustful melodies to one another.
The envy falls from my eyes.
Oh to be a frog.
Oh to converse with my lover.
I reach for my Instrument.
No New Messages.

The silence in the cell,
it's interrupted.
The heavy footsteps echo,
Signaling His arrival.
The nervous apprehension stops my breath.
Oh to be in his arms.
Oh to feel his warmth.
I reach for my Lover.
Nothing.
